BUSINESS LEAGUE 2011

Another successful Business League has just completed and all the teams that participated thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The competition format was based on 7’s rugby. Three trophies were up for grabs namely Cup for overall winners, Plate for runners-up and the Shield for third place.
Twelve teams from Gansbaai entered the competition which started on the 3rd February 2011. There were two sections with White Shark Adventures 1, Atlantic Abalone, BuildIT 1, OK Foods, Gansbaai Golf Club and Omega 1 in section one. Section two consisted of Pep Stores, White Shark Adventures 2, Gawie Krugel Bouers, Dulux Colour Box, BuildIT 2 and Omega 2.
Competition was tough amongst the different businesses and they refused to budge for each other but unfortunately there must be a loser.
On the 10th of March semi finals were played and this was where the men were separated from the boys. Observing the teams one could sense there was a lot of tension and stress as to what the final draw would look like and don’t be mistaken as most of the teams knew exactly what they should get to be on top of the  draw. The finals were played on 24th March with Atlantic Abalone and Omega 1 playing for the top spot the CUP. Runners-up were Omega 2 and Gawie Krugel Bouers fighting it out for the PLATE. In third place were OK Foods and White Shark Adventures 2 butting heads for the SHIELD honors.
Teams were cheered as the games were in progress with OK Foods getting all the support from the locals with OK plastic bags being waved to motivate them. A couple of teams took their time especially for the top honors. They played into the darkness but thanks for cell phone technology as cell torches were used to indicate where the jack was!   Finally the teams finished and sat down to a well organised dinner arranged by Dina, Liz and Hettie. Pieter Conradie gave a speech and thanked all the business participants for entering the competition and promised them next year it will be even better. Hopefully the floodlights will be installed by then and the problem of nightfall will be something of the past.
The winners were Atlantic Abalone, most ably coached by Philip Malherbe, who will compete on the 30th April 2011 in Paarl against the winners of the zones. Good luck to them. Runners-up were Omega 2 and Gawie Krugel Bouers who share the PLATE Trophy. A well deserved third place goes to OK Foods who fought until the end to take the SHIELD.
